Will Apple Release iPhone 7 in the First Half of 2016? I Don’t Think So

It’s been a rumor that Apple will release iPhone 7 sooner than expected. If it is true, I will really happy to get the new iPhone 7 earlier than September 2016. However, I don’t think Apple will do that and I will tell you why.

We have been conditioned to see the news that Apple will release their new iPhone in September. Apple has been doing this from iPhone 5. This way works great for Apple and also Apple fans. However, with the news that the shipment of iPhone 6s/6s plus will decline this year for the first time. Many reports said that Apple will release the iPhone 7 earlier to increase the sales in fiscal 2016. But after thinking about this, I don’t believe Apple will do this as most people expect.

Here are the reasons:

1. Think about fiscal 2017

If Apple release iPhone 7 in the first half of 2016, yes, the result of their fiscal 2016 will be much better than now we can expect. How about 2017, will they release the iPhone 7s or iPhone 8 in the first half of 2017? This won’t solve the problem.

2. Flagship Products from Competitors

As usual, competitors of Apple will release their flagship products before fall every year. So if Apple releases iPhone 7 in the first half of 2016, the battle will be much fiercer than ever. No one will know the result and I don’t think Apple will do this.

3. A10 Will NOT Ready

To make iPhone 7 even thinner than iPhone 6s, Apple chooses TSMC as the chip provider other than Samsung. The latest tech from TSMC will make more than 20% reduction in chip package. That will make iPhone 7 the thinnest iPhone ever. But the latest earning call from TSMC shows the company will target a “volume ramp-up” in the second quarter of 2016. So Apple can’t release iPhone 7 in the first half of 2016 because there will be not enough A10 for iPhone 7.

For the 3 reasons above, Apple will not and cannot release iPhone 7 in the first half of 2016. So just wait and see the new iPhone 7 in September 2016.
