How to recover lost and deleted contacts from iPhone, iTunes backup file and iCloud?

Contacts disappear does not caused by one reason. It’s a complicated process and no one can tell clearly. And sometimes, you just delete your iPhone contacts by mistake. So how to solve the problem and recover lost and deleted contacts from iPhone? This article shows you all the possible ways to retrieve contacts from iPhone.
If you lost a part of your contacts or delete few contacts by mistake, you can use the Message app on your iPhone to recover your contacts easily. To do this, first you need know the name of your contacts and you have sent text messages to them.
Open your Message app and start a new message, input the name of your lost/deleted contact. Your iPhone will show you the name and the phone number of the contact. Then click “i” next to the suggested phone number. You can re-create the new contact on your iPhone. In this way, you can recover the contacts that you have sent messages one by one.
You can do this because iPhone save contacts data and auto-suggestion data separately. So you have the chance to retrieve your lost/deleted contacts’ name and phone number which you have contacted before. This is the most reliable way to recover your lost/deleted contacts once you contacted them. But you can only recover the name and phone number, other data in the contacts will not be saved in this way.
How to recover lost/deleted contacts from iPhone with iPhone data recovery

Step 1. Run iPhone Data Recovery and connect your iPhone

All the contacts will be listed on the interface with all the data, such as name, phone number, email, company and so on. The deleted contacts will be marked as red. To find your lost/deleted contacts, you can easily choose the filter to only show the deleted contacts. Simple select all the deleted contacts and click “Recover” button. Seconds later, it can finish the process of recovering.

How to restore lost/deleted contacts from iPhone iTunes backup files
Part 1. Restore iPhone contacts with iTunes
If you do not change the settings of your iTunes, it will make a backup file for your iPhone every time you sync your iPhone with iTunes. So you can use the iTunes backup files to restore your lost/deleted contacts. The only condition is you still have the contacts when the backup file is made.
Connect your iPhone to iTunes. Choose your iPhone in iTunes, go to the summary section. You will see Backups, choose “This computer” and select “Restore Backup” at the right side.
1. If you sync multiple iOS devices with your iTunes, please make sure that you choose the right backup files to recover. If you choose the wrong backup file, you will not get your contacts back.
2. Before you connect your iPhone to your iTunes, please make sure your iTunes will not automatically sync your iPhone this time. Or iTunes will backup your iPhone and the last backup file may be replaced by the latest one.
In this way, you can recover your lost/deleted iPhone contacts. However, all your iPhone data will be overwrite back to the same as the iTunes backup files, including contacts, call history, sms, app data, videos, photos, etc. So it is not the first choice to recover your iPhone contacts.
Part 2. Recover lost/deleted iPhone contacts from iTunes backup file using iPhone Data Recovery
Step.1 Run iPhone Data Recovery software and select the second option from the left menu “Recover from iTunes Backup Files”. You will see all the iTunes backup files on your computer. You just need to choose the one that you would like to recover contacts from. Click “Scan” button to analyze the iTunes backup files and all the data in the iTunes backup file will be listed in the next interface.
Step 2. Go to the “contacts” section. All the contacts in the iPhone iTunes backup file will be listed (Deleted contacts will in red). You can use the filter to only show the deleted contacts, then select all and click “Recover” button to recover them.
This way is always your first choice if you want to restore deleted/lost iPhone contacts from iTunes backup file.
How to retrieve lost/deleted contacts from iCloud
If you enabled the iCloud backup service, you can retrieve your iPhone contacts from iCloud backup files. Log into your iCloud account and go to the Contacts. Check if the lost/deleted contacts are in the backup files. If yes, go to the “Settings” app on your iPhone, choose “iCloud” and turn on the “Contacts”. If it already on, you need to turn it off and then turn on again. Here will be asked “What would you like to do with the previously synced iCloud contacts on your iPhone?” Choose “Keep on My iPhone”. When you turn on it again, choose “Merge”. Then go back to the “Contacts” app on your iPhone and check if the lost/deleted contacts come back to your iPhone or not.
